Containment Breach
A downloadable game
Deep in the heart of the Rhodes Research Lab, the premier spot for containing and studying the absurd and abnormal, something has escaped! …and YOU are the most disposable one qualified to find it and shut it back up.
Materials: 2 six sided dice, coin, scissors, pencils, timer
HOW TO PLAY:
THE SHORT VERSION
One player is the Game Master. They know the mimic’s weaknesses. The rest of the players take turns rolling two dice to try to find what the mimic is weak to based on the table below. Once a player feels confident in their knowledge of the mimic, they can attempt to contain it. Failing to contain it puts a timer on the other players. A correct guess means you win! But if everyone fails, the mimic wins.
THE LONG VERSION
The Game Master starts by deciding the mimic’s two weaknesses, and 1 containment method based on them from the pdf. Then, pick an object from around the room to be your mimic. (Empty can, glasses, scissors, etc. Even this paper would work!)
The player who last touched an animal goes first. They roll 2 six sided die. Based on their roll, they choose 1 thing to test the mimic against. (ex. Michael rolls a 2 and a 4, giving them the choice of water or electricity. They choose water.)
The Game Master then reveals whether the mimic had a reaction to that element or not. However, mimics are slippery creatures. The GM can lie once per the amount of players. (3 players, 3 lies, etc.)
This repeats 3 times, after which the players can begin to guess and contain the mimic with one of the containment methods. A correct guess wins the game. An incorrect guess from one of the players, however, removes them from play, after which a 30 second timer is started. The players must now move quickly, as they only have a small window to guess. (GMs, speed up your reveals! It’s only fair!)
After all players have had their third turn, if nobody has made a guess, the timer is started regardless.
If there are more than 3 players, team up! You both roll, just share a score sheet.
(All tests are the same, except Taste. The player attempts to eat the mimic. It’s a coin toss, with the player and GM choosing heads or tails. If the player wins the toss, they contain the mimic. But, if the GM wins, they are immediately out, and the countdown starts. )
